Matt and Ashley first met in December of 2020. Matt decided to reignite his Yoga practice after losing his father that year. While living in Brooklyn at the time, Ashley taught Yoga twice a week in New Jersey. It was then that Matt took Ashley's class for the first time and soon after became a regular. Week after week, month after month, they slowly developed a friendship that was growing towards something special.

A year later Matt decided to finally ask Ashley out on a date. She politely declined saying she "was busy." Matt took the hint and chose to continue developing their friendship in a platonic way. Six months later, Ashley started to see Matt in a new light and said to herself "if he asks me out again I'll say yes." Matt soon felt the timing was right, and he asked Ashley out again. That Monday night after class, when everyone had left the studio, Matt asked Ashley to a Brooklyn Nets Basketball game that following Sunday. He thought, 'who has plans on a Sunday?' Ashley said yes. The first date was a success and by the second date they became inseparable.
